History of the Block Arcade
Melbourne’s iconic Block arcade was built in 1893 and was designed to replicate the feel of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan Italy. Situated between Collins & Elizabeth streets, The Block’s richly decorated interior spaces, glass dome, wrought iron and magnificent hand laid mosaic floor is where Andrea Ward worked as a young fashion student and fell in love with the building. In 1997 Andrea and her husband Tim opened MCM Studio situated under the dome specialising in Italian silk ties, scarves & premium shirts. The Block Collection silk scarves & accessories is designed in Melbourne and manufactured in Italy. Stepped in history The Block arcade has become one of Melbourne’s must see tourist attractions and has been named number 4 in TripAdvisors “Australia’s top 10 landmarks”.
